Five manned traffic centres and 30 unmanned radar stations of the Scheldt Radar Network make a picture of shipping traffic in the Scheldt area. In every traffic centre, traffic controllers receive and process radar data in order to build up a picture of shipping traffic. The Scheldt Radar Network stands for the technology (hardware, software and infrastructure).

On every radar tower there is a transmitter which transmits pulses via a revolving scanner.

The pulses hit a vessel and the reflections return via the same scanner back to the radar receiver.

With the aid of the Information Processing System, ship and voyage data are linked to the radar targets.
